about

An introspective song.
You never can tell if the man speaking is an outlaw, a soldier, a guerrilla or the three of them. He's just a man remembering his maybe not especially glorious past, the brave girl he loved, the evil he's done.
The last sentences are inspired by Montaigne, you can guess what I meant just in reading it - kind of a parable again...
"Most people look before themselves when they’d better look inside"

lyrics

I look at my poor face on the greasy window
of the train
Sudden flashes of light
show
Pale moving shadows
And I can’t help but see
Your skin
As white as lilies
In the shadowy glade that day / that day

You were so bold to meet me there
And make me forget my hands
Are red with blood
That I killed men and did not regret it much
Regret it much

Your body soft and young
Made me forget
I killed men
That my hands are still
Covered with blood

We fought from the bush
We hid in the woods
We roamed the roads at night
To us belonged
Punishment and reward
But I can never pay you back
For what you’ve done for me

No wind favors he who has no more a home
No wind favors the one who has no more a home

All night through I remembered the past while the train sped along the country

Most people look before themselves when they’d better look inside
Most people look before themselves when they’d better look inside

And recall the evil done
All night through I remembered the past
All night through I remembered the past
All night through…I remembered the past
