about

That's a traditional folk song from those sung in the South. You can find it in Max Hunter archives in the Internet, and probably in Alan Lomax archives aswell. I thought it perfectly fits our new LP's atmosphere.

lyrics

It was in the early springtime
All in the month of May
This young man in deep sorrow
From home went away
His parents locked in slumber
He bid his last farewell
What agony he suffered
No human tongue can tell

And he sank beneath the waves
No fathers hand to save
No mother there to guide him
He filled the watery grave

The moon in all her glory
Was shining from the sky
He started on his journey
Away from home to die
He went to the river
He stood upon the shore
And thought of home and loved ones
Whom he'd see, o, never more

He'd left two loving brothers
Friends to mourn their lost
Two broken hearted parents
Must bear the heavy cross
And the moon in all her glory
Was softly shining down
As he stood aside the river
Then he jumped in to drown

No father there to save
No mother there to save
No mother there to plead with him
He filled a watery grave

We found him in the evening
And the sun was bending low
He'd risen to the surface
And floated to the shore
We put him in his coffin
And hauled him to his grave
And laid him there to rest
And wait the Judgement day

He sank beneath the waves
No fathers hand to save
No mother near to guide him
He filled a watery grave
